At Bruening Eye Specialists, we provide comprehensive medical and surgical eye care in South Dakota, Iowa, and Nebraska. We are focused on giving you the best possible care so you can achieve your best possible vision. The doctors at Bruening Eye specialize in LASIK surgery, cataract surgery, advanced technology cataract surgery, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, and oculoplastic surgery. In addition, they also medically treat eye diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, dry eye, and diabetic eye disease. We have two primary locations in Siouxland and four satellite locations, so you can have access to the region's best eye surgeons, close to home.

Dr. Beth K. Bruening, MD

Comprehensive Ophthalmologist, Ophthalmic Surgeon

Dr. Beth Bruening specializes in no-stitch cataract surgery, a same day procedure that replaces the cloudy cataract lens with a clear intraocular lens implant. She has been performing cataract surgery for nearly 25 years, longer than any ophthalmologist in Siouxland. Board-certified in comprehensive ophthalmology; she also has extensive experience in treating patients with glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetes and all eye disorders. Dr. Bruening has been recognized as a Top 10 Surgeon in the U.S. by Sightpath Medical in 2009, 2010, 2012.

A native of Crofton, NE, Dr. Bruening earned her bachelor’s degree in 1983 followed by her medical degree in 1987 from the University of Nebraska. She completed a residency in ophthalmology at Texas Tech University Health and Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas and relocated to Sioux City to open her practice in 1991. Dr. Bruening joined the Woodbury Medical Society and was elected president by her peers in 1998. She later became president of the Iowa Academy of Ophthalmology. She was selected to participate in the American Academy of Ophthalmology Leadership Development Program in 2004-2005 and then served on the academy’s board and PAC from 2005 to 2008. She also served on the board of directors and several committees of the Iowa Medical Society.

Dr. Bruening and her husband, Steve, have two sons.

Dr. Thomas G. Pratt, OD

Optometrist

Dr. Tom Pratt has seen optometry patients at Bruening Eye Specialists since 2008. Dr. Pratt grew up in Cherokee, Iowa and graduated from Iowa State University in 1980 where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in distributive studies with minors in chemistry, biology and business. At Iowa State he was also a four-year letterman in track and a state champion pole vaulter!

Dr. Pratt received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1985 and completed a summer residency in Chicago working with patients with glaucoma, diabetes and retinal diseases. After working in the Quad Cities, he moved to Sioux City in 1987 and began working in area optometry offices before joining Bruening Eye Specialists.

Dr. Pratt and his wife, Laura, have three adult children.

Medical Billing/Accounts Receivable Position

Job duties include ensuring the timely submission of accurate claims data, and timely and accurate account follow-up (including adjustment claims, reconsiderations, and adjustment requests) to facilitate prompt and accurate payment from third-party payers and others. Perform daily reconciliation of claim submission, reject processing within 24 hours, and work with external departments as needed to resolve claim issues before submission. Make decisions to ensure account accuracy, limited denials, and timely billing of the patient, primary, secondary, and tertiary payer.

Must have at least 2 years of medical billing experience. Remote work is an option, but this person should also be available for occasional in-house work at either of our locations (Dakota Dunes or Sioux City), whichever is most convenient.
